Is Attack on Titan 3 Multiplayer?

Co-op has been a pillar of the franchise since the first game. Here is the honest status on A.O.T. 3 multiplayer, co-op, crossplay and what the series history strongly suggests.

The short answer

Attack on Titan 3 multiplayer is not yet officially confirmed. However, online co-op has been a core feature of every main entry in the series — Attack on Titan, Attack on Titan 2 and A.O.T. 2: Final Battle all shipped with co-op play. The strong expectation is that A.O.T. 3 continues that tradition, but we mark it as expectation until Koei Tecmo confirms the online features.

How multiplayer worked before

In the previous games, co-op was built around expedition missions: two to four players flew into battle together to take down Titans, support each other’s ODM targeting and share rewards. Your custom soldier was the character you brought online, and mission progression carried back into the single-player campaign. The loop was simple, loud and deeply satisfying — cut a limb off a Titan while a teammate distracts it, then both deliver the killing blow.

For A.O.T. 3, the emphasis on evolved ODM gear and a story spanning the entire arc suggests the co-op systems will be deeper rather than removed. Expect larger mission variety, more structured team objectives and a tighter integration with the campaign’s set pieces — though the exact modes remain unannounced.

How co-op works in practice

In the established series loop, co-op was mission-based rather than open-world. A small squad dropped into a battlefield with defined objectives — thin the Titan herd, protect a supply line, escort a key character, or hunt a specific threat. The ODM system made this collaborative in a way few games match: one player could anchor a Titan’s jaw with wire to expose its nape while teammates closed in for the kill, and chain reactions across the squad built momentum ratings that raised mission rewards.

Because A.O.T. 3 covers the story from the beginning to the climax, the co-op framework is expected to map onto that entire arc. That could mean replayable expedition missions drawn from each chapter of the story, with the roster expanding as the campaign progresses. It is also the natural place for the deeper gear and progression the official material hints at — shared loadouts, squad synergy and a reason to keep levelling your custom soldier across the whole campaign.

What about crossplay?

Crossplay is the biggest unknown. The series has traditionally kept platform player bases separate, and no crossplay announcement exists for A.O.T. 3. Until one is made, assume that co-op, if confirmed, will be within the same platform family — and that cross-play between PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 is unlikely to be a launch feature.

The one thing we can say confidently: the platform lineup — PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 — is broad, and a broad lineup increases the pressure on publishers to enable crossplay. We will update this page the moment crossplay is addressed.

Platforms and online requirements

If online co-op is confirmed, expect the standard platform requirements: a console online subscription (PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core) for console co-op, and a free-to-join online service on PC. Whether any online features require a persistent connection for single-player has not been announced, and is worth watching.

Local co-op?

The series has never shipped split-screen local co-op, and nothing suggests A.O.T. 3 will be the first. Expect online co-op as the primary multiplayer format if multiplayer is confirmed.
